Achieve Work-Life Balance

Work-Life Balance?

Starting a business is an exciting endeavor and it is also challenging. In a business' infancy the last thing you may think about is how to create work-life balance. Making time for yourself when your business is in the startup phase (usually 0-3 years) can be critical to your success.

As a single women and business owner, I often forget to take the time to enjoy life. I am always thinking about the next thing I have to do or the next project I have to work on. Recently, over a dinner conversation, the person I was speaking with asked me what I do for myself. When I began to answer, she said, "No. You have to take time for yourself." It sounds easy to do when you hear that. It reminds me of one of my favorite sayings.

"Entrepreneurs work a few years like no one will so that they can live the rest of their life like most people cannot."

I understand this quote and respect it. But does that mean that we cannot have balance in our lives? What does it look like for us to have work-life balance? I do not have one answer, but I do know that I am striving for this balance.

5 ways of introducing work-life balance into your routine:

  • Quiet Time - Set aside at least 15 minutes a day when you do absolutely nothing. Don't think about work or any other stressors you may have.
  • Quality Time - Spend a few hours a week doing something you enjoy. You can walk on the beach, get a massage, or have drinks with the girlfriends. However, if you do go out with other people do not discuss business. This time is solely for relaxation.
  • Decide what is important - It is easy as the CEO to engulf yourself in your business and very tempting to seize every opportunity that comes your way. Truly evaluate whether these opportunities will make or break your business and learn to say, NO.
  • Set realistic goals - Setting goals is key to success whether in business or in your personal life. I encourage you to create goals in both of these areas. What is important to the success of your business? What do you want to achieve in your personal life? When you outline these goals, it will allow you to eliminate the unnecessary.
  • Get a life - Find something that you can do, not related to your business that excites you. Do that as often as you can while you are building your company/business. Take time out with family and friends as often as you can. Enjoy life while creating a successful business.

5 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Fall

Fall's here; it's time to tackle home maintenance projects and improvements that can protect your home's value and prevent costly repairs. Below are some of the top maintenance projects for fall:

Furnace: Replace your old furnace filters with new ones. While you’re at it, clean out those ducts. If you've changed your filters regularly, you can just lift off the register covers and vacuum out the boots with a shop vacuum. If you haven't cleaned them in awhile, consider calling a professional duct cleaning service to handle this important chore.

Windows: If you’ve opened and closed your windows much during the warmer months, dirt and debris can gather at the seals and prevent them from sealing properly. In the coming months, heat will escape through small gaps. Take the time to go around the house and clean each window. Replace any worn-down weather stripping. If you have an older home with its original, wood-framed windows, check the outside of them for dried, flaking caulk. Replace it with weather-proof caulk made for windows.

Deck: If your deck has never been treated, do it now. Pressure wash the entire deck, let it dry for at least three hours, then rub on water sealer and let it dry. A weekend afternoon of work will add years to the life of your patio.

Roof: Critters will try and enter your home through the roof. Look out for lifting shingles, wood chips or shavings. Remove any damaged shingles to assess the damage. Purchase matching shingles and roof nails and replace damaged singles. For severe damage, call a professional roofer before the start of the rainy season. (Remember: Don't go up on a roof alone. Always have someone on the ground in case of an emergency.)

Gutters: Clear them of debris, make sure the downspouts are unobstructed, and check for any structural problems.

On a side note, fall is generally a slower season for many contractors. If you have any larger projects that require professional help, there's a chance you can save time and money by doing them in the fall. Give me a call if you’re looking for contractor or handyman. I’d be happy to refer one to you.

You and Your Skin Care Professional

You and Your Skin Care Professional

Guinot – The Face of Beauty

With our busy lifestyles we are all seeking a quiet moment that is dedicated just for us. A visit to a spa or skin care clinic will bring relief from your daily stresses to restore a sense of balance and to enhance your beauty and health.

Skin care is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity, and by choosing results-oriented skin care that helps you look your best today and in the future you will help reduce the effects of aging, and enjoy a precious moment of serenity . Each visit to your beauty therapist is not simply a relaxing experience: it is an investment in the continued health and well-being of your skin.

Have you had ‘The Uh-Oh moment ? When you realise that the face in the mirror is yours….that awful, pivotal second when you realise you are ageing. When you look at your reflection do you hear echoes of your mothers' words of wisdom and criticism? No need to fret, help is at hand. Modern skin care provides a “youth revolution” to defy and fight the signs of ageing. Spa treatment methods and formulas are at the leading edge and deliver the highest expectations to make you look more beautiful, your face radiant and more youthful in appearance.

Ten reasons why you schedule a facial:

  • 1. How you treat your skin today affects the skin you will have ten or more years in the future. Professional skin care services will not only help you look better today, but also maintain a youthful appearance in the years to come.

  • 2. Your personal beauty theapist will address any skin care issues you may have –whether you have dry, oily, or aging skin or other specific challenges, they have the knowledge and expertise to help you look your best.

  • 3. Opt for Personalized, Luxury Service, with skincare treatments exclusively designed for you to make your skin more radiant and reduce the effects of aging.
  • 4. Most spas offer personalized programs to help foster cellular regeneration to maintain your skin in optimum health.
  • 5. Autumn and Winter months are the perfect time for renewing and peeling facial treatments that rid the skin of the rigours of summer: pigmentation, thickened skin and acne caused by sunscreen.
  • 6. If the reflection in the mirror this morning appeared dull and lacking in radiance: this is a sign that your skin needs to be exfoliated, gently. Regenerating skin renewal will restore a youthful and healthy glow.

  • 7. Hormones, birthdays and lifestyle are key factors that influence your skins appearance and function. A thorough skin analysis and consultation with a beauty professional will guide you through a skin care regimen to address your unique needs and concerns.
  • 8. Your skin renews itself every 28 days, everyday a new generation of skin cells is produced, consequently facials are programmed for maximum duration at least one month apart. Cell regeneration is fundamental to the youthfulness of the skin.
  • 9. Just as plants respond to nutrients and water, the skin can recharge its resources of energy and revitalzing substances that reactivate cellular function to delay the visible effects of ageing.
  • 10. The skins basic function is PROTECTION. It shields us from harmful UV rays, dehydration, friction, wind and pollution. Skin care rituals and regular facial treatments strengthen the tissue structure to help prevent loss of firmness, increase assimilation of active ingredients for healthy skin function and reduce the signs of ageing.

I see clients on a daily basis for restorative facials, rejuvenating spa treatments, and relaxing massage. As an expert aesthetician and beauty therapist I focus on delivering personalized results-oriented care to each client, to help you look your best today and in the future. With more that 40 years of professional skincare experience, Guinot, the creators of the prestigious hydradermie facial, and now hydra-lift facial, bring you effective beauty therapy treatments with dependable results in a private Parisian styled setting.

Together, you and your beauty therapist will share an amazing experience to give you radiant healthy skin and make each day more beautiful.

fall cleaning...

i have to tell you...perusing through my september fashion magazines is getting me pretty excited for fall...which...on the one hand...surprises me...because i tend to want to hold on to the warmer weather...but the fall clothes...they are calling out to me...almost...but not quite to the point that i'm wanting colder weather...

phew...did i just say that??

one of the things that i recommend to my clients during this time of year...is to do a fall cleaning...kind of like spring...but in the fall...everyone has heard of spring cleaning...but fall cleaning is just as important...

in the area that i live...our climate really doesn't change that drastically...there are days in the spring/summer that i'm needing my warmer clothes...and there are days in the fall/winter where i'm needing to pull out some of my lighter summer wear...sometimes...when i visit other places...i long for those "real" fall days...of all the leaves turning the most beautiful colors...driving along my neighborhood...there may be a tree or two that actually changes...in a "real" fall way...but most of the trees...remain the same with a colored leaf or two...

so back to the fall cleaning...for those in drastic climates...i recommend it because there really is no point in packing away clothes for another season that you have no intention of wearing...why even bother with the effort?

another thing is twice a year major sweep of the closet actually makes it a lot more bearable...because you get to the point that you have whittled out 6 months ago...and you have a lot less to whittle through...

think of it as before every major season change...so once for spring/summer and then again for fall/winter...

i've said it time and time again...but it is so much more fun to stand in front of a closet full of clothes that you can't wait to wear...instead of standing in front of a closet that has lots of clothes...but they don't fit...they don't go with anything...they need mending...etc...

oh...and while your whittling away those "not right for you" items...remember...you can then turn around and make some $$ for the new items you need to purchase...if you are local...let me know...and we will get them into the fabulous finds consignment boutique...and while you are at it...keep checking back...you may just find that perfect piece for yourself...that another client has already cleaned out...many...are new with tags...

if this task seems overwhelming to you...sometimes the best thing that you can do for yourself...is let a wardrobe consultant help you out...for those in my area...feel free to contact me...it is not about getting rid of clothes...it is about evaluating everything in your closet...what pieces are missing to create complete outfits with what you have...to put together outfits you may not have thought of...to get the most out of the pieces that you have...it really is a fun process...and i...would love to help!
